She named her son Jim, my grandfather, after her brother Jim B., who had died only 3 weeks before the baby's birth.

I have always wondered what the middle initial "B" in both men's names stood for. My theory is that it may have stood for Beador, since Jim B. Harbor had an uncle by that name. Will likely never know certain though. I got confused at first by the Wesson and Bowen last names, but they do seem to check out correctly according to this blog. It's hard to tell how the different family members are related since it was so far back. I did see alot of South Carolina and North Carolina birth places, it was just hard to tell who was related to who. But the author's original article followed exactly-helped me weed out ares not to look in. Thank you! We lived next the Presleys and Smiths in both Fulton and Tupelo. We've been going over records and census stuff for the past two years w/ the museum/foundation. This author hasn't really updated anything, but for our purposes- the only two families that need focus are the Presleys and Smiths. When I start digging in the weed- the other family names associated and related to Elvis are quite a few. That's we've chopped them down to a basic five or six names. I don't think that a side name of family would put one importance over another.
I checked out what the author has stated, and it looks good. But in the long run- it's so far back in time and small in size-that it really will not make a difference for us. If we do another book or project- this def. will be important. As far as, things like the recent film, cartoon series, or our stuff- it will not matter.
But it is a crucial part-to find out where everyone really lived. This company bad labor practices and the state of Mississippi will never own up to their negligence of human life. They forced workers to be exposed to raw cancerous materials on a daily while knowingly that it could later result in heath related issues or death. They would never own up to liability and the state had the audacity after the Federal government allowed class actions lawsuits to be filed on behalf of families to impose a three year statue of limitations to anyone filing medical claims for loved ones after they had passed so NO not a good memory. My question to you is this; are you saying that the Hood family your husband is a part of is related to Elvis, but the other Hood family is not? My husband is definitely related to Elvis and this is how exactly (we had this verified by Ancestry); My husband's Grandmother was Velma Exie Hood. Her Grandfather (which would be my husband's Great Great Grandfather) was Harrison Henry Hood (1855-1921) and he was a brother to Minnie Mae Hood's Father, which would have been Elvis' Great Grandfather, William Harrison Hood (1852-1935). My husbands Great Great Grandfather had a son, Jeffrey Aaron Hood ( 1892-1959) who would have been first cousins with Minnie Mae Hood (their dad's were brothers). Jeffrey Aaron Hood had many children and one of them was my husband's Grandma, Velma Exie as mentioned above. That would make his grandma second cousins with Elvis' father (Minnie Mae's son) Vernon and my husbands mother (Velma's daughter) third cousins with Elvis etc. I know we have the right Hood family that is indeed related to Elvis. I would be more than happy to share the family tree if you are interested. Thank you. (b C. 1820, AL) Dellman Hood has John Lambath as the son of Wm and Martha Hood (p 110 in book). My grandfather, who was born in 1882, saw the Dellman Hood book before his death, and said that at least for John Lambath's parentage, it was just plain wrong. (Unfortunately, Grandpa didn't write down the parentage as he knew it!) Isaac and Austin Hood both lived nearby also in Jefferson Co, so it may well be that Isaac was John Lambath's father.
The name "Austin" is sprinkled thoughout the Alabama and MS. Hoods which leads me to believe that these families are descended from John Hood and Sarah Austin. Records indicate this couple was married in Wake Co, NC in Sept 1787 with a Thomas Hood as a bondsman. (There was a Thomas sr and a junior-I believe this John belonged to this Hood grouping) From my research, I don't believe this John was the son of Tunis, nor did he ever live in Mecklenburg Co, NC. Tunis' family lived in Mecklenburg Co.
Also, it appears to me that the Pickens Co AL Hoods came from Camden District SC and were also not a part of the Tunis family.
So,I believe there were 3 separate Hood families living in the Carolinas during the late 1700's, and Dellman Hood unfortunately merged them all.
Unfortunately, there were too many Johns, Austins, and Williams in all the Hood families- so now the Hood heritage is a tangled mess.M.
